SA - Durban, Lekke bru....

Ok so here I am on the plane, after spending a week in Durban flying to Cape Town. It’s been a great week that has been reasonably packed with different things going on including things to do with Harvest church led by George and his wife Lianne Gourlay, Julian has been ministering (giving out speaking/prophesying and counselling) at, getting a bit of time to see the city of Durban and also spending time with our wonderful host family, Louie and Mandy and their kids.

The week started out with me arriving being very tired as I can’t sleep on planes and it meant that after roughly 20 hours traveling and not a lot of sleep I was pretty snookered! I was met at arrivals by a guy from the church called Darren, an absolutely great guy who I later found out was a awesome guitarist and worship leader as well as being someone who loves God’s creation and takes groups of men on trips out on weekends called ‘Untamed’, last time they did one of these they found footprints from a lion going though the middle of the camp in the morning! Crazy!

I met Julian when I got to the Harvest building and he was speaking at a school called GSSM. The school is very similar to a school I did in Bedford, UK in 2009/10, learning about God’s heart for us and about things of the Spirit of God. Julian spoke at the school Monday - Thursday and really helped the students come into some great encounters with God and encouraged them with prophesying over individuals and sharing stories about what God is doing.

There were meetings throughout the week which we went to and then we usually ate out somewhere afterwards. Something which always strikes me with Julian and struck me with George and the others was their generosity towards each other. It really has challenged me in terms of how willing I am to give out of what I have and not hold on to it in an orphan mindset, where I feel like I need to gather and collect just in case, rather than being generous with what I have. It’s all God’s anyway and He will provide for all I need! :-) We ate at some great restaurants and on Wednesday night we went to an African restaurant called Moyo, where we had out faces painted and the was African entertainment and I ate springbok (a deer type buck thing, which is a national symbol for the South African rugby team). We also went with our hosts Louie and Mandy to a revolving restaurant in Durban and I had crocodile :-)

On the friday evening I spoke to the youth at Harvest church about being significant in identity and purpose and it went really well. Lots of people responded to receive more of God’s love and a young guy decided to respond to Jesus and give his life to Him! Yehahh! (Salvation Dance - :D)

I am going to continue to write about the weekend in the next post so keep your eyes peeled bru! Lekke.....
